Amor Magazine caught up with music lover, one-man production, plus founder of J Star Entertainment – Reuben Royal! – Where he talks about his inspiration, crushes and love for rap music.
J Star Entertainment has worked with rappers such as Tinchy Stryder, Play Dirty member, Yungen, Bow wow and Lady Leshurr and, have some really big things planned for the near future. In fact, you guys will also be surprised to know, that Reuben is the production! He works by himself the majority of the time. Let’s take a look at the interview!
Tell us a bit about Jstar Entertainment?
“It began as a multimedia production team specialising in urban music video production. With our growing archive of well orchestrated work assisted with mass audience interest, it now aims to broaden out into other aspects of media including artist management, live events coverage and radio plugging. – www.youtube.com/watch?v=tklzmfbNeyo ”
Who influenced you on starting Jstar Entertainment?
“I would say that the grime/rap DvD era (2004-2007) influenced my decision on starting Jstar Entertainment. The most notable of those DvDs would be “South Students DvD” by a guy called Y.Biker.”
What sort of artists, do you guys usually have to perform?
“Music video-wise? I usually work with Rap orientated musicians, but I don’t mind branching out to different genres. In fact I’d love to do that.”
Who are your inspirations?
“My inspirations are people that have more motivation than me, that in itself motivates and inspires me. I wouldn’t say a particular person inspires me because I want to be the best “ME” I can be without being referred to as another person so to speak.”
What artist would you say, you enjoyed working with?
“I enjoy working with Play Dirty member: Yungen and an up and coming artist who goes by the name of Jords. He has just released his EP called “Are You Ready” which sounds amazing!!”
What artist would you love to work with?
“I’d love to work with 50 Cent, I grew up on his music and love what he’s doing currently.”
Why call your production team Jstar?
“Jstar is an acronym for Just Striving To Achieve Really…”
Who is your female artist crush?
“Aluna from AlunaGeorge, I saw her the other day and fell in love. Oh and Jessie J…”
Other than music, what do you like doing?
“Other than music? Well I mainly do video production, which revolves around music, but I like watching Anime, and helping out a luxury-clothing brand called Way2Faded with its ideas. I’m very active.”
What advice would you give people looking to be in the music industry?
“My advice would be “Just Do It”. Nike hit it on the head with their slogan because if you don’t try, then you’ve already failed. Do you have an idea? Just do it. Did it work? Great, if it didn’t then at least you know. Now onto the next thing… Just Do It!!”
