Ruffles, summer and femininity go so perfectly together like a ham and cheese sandwich. They just work so well together. Ruffles have been around for centuries in ladies fashion an this trend shows know sign of becimung extinct and reductuve.
Anywhere from little toddler dresses to wedding dressings, ruffles have been a girls best friend for an age, truly showing the essence of femininity and being a girly girl.
With what is a true testement to the minds of fashion designers, ruffles keep gettting reinvented or brought up to date with a twist.
For Spring/Summer 2013, ruffles as a statement was seen all over the runways. The Likes of powerhouse fashion house Balenciaga really showcased ruffles in an interesting, dramatic light. the ruffles here gave me a Spanish vibe of the tango, paso doble, flamenco and bullfighting. While some pieces in the Gucci collection clearly took inspiration from the waves and ripple of the water.
Ruffles also add the illusion of curves and shape where you dont have it, if you wear them correctly. Marni showed this excellently in their S/S13 collection. So if you are a little flat chested ruffles up top will give the appearance of a more apple bosom. ruffles around the hips and thigh will promote the perception of curvy hips, thighs and butt.
On the other side of the scale those who aren’t comfortable with their stomach can use ruffles to hide it, but don’t over ruffle girls! you don’t want to end up looking like a big old puff ball.
The classic girly feminine vibe of ruffles was achieved excellently with Chloe and Zac Posen. Stunning, both collections.
Ruffles have been trimmed down and minimalised this season because ruffles can absoutely be overly fussy and over-the-top. But with the amazing examples on the the runways of designers all over the world you too can wear ruffles and look amazing.
On the high street, Monki, Topshop and Forever 21 are flying the flag for affordable ruffles.
Supermodel Rosie Huttington-White, the beautiful Cheryl Coe and Kelly Osbourne from my favourite show the Fashion Police have all rocked ruffles in one way or the other.
Ruffles one right are amazing on any figure shape. Ruffles feathers and make the pavements your runway!!!
