A SNOOZE OR A ROMP?

UNROMANTIC BRITS CHOOSE SLEEP OVER SEX

Bleary eyed Brits would rather grab 40 winks than a rampant night of passion, with almost three quarters saying they’d choose sleep over sex with their partner.

Far from scattering the pillows with rose petals, the survey of 2,000 people carried out by bedding retailer sleepypeople.com, revealed that Brits will be donning pyjamas and bed socks.

Just one in 10 women say that they favour sex over a  few minutes’ extra sleep.

In comparison, almost a quarter of men (24 per cent) would favour an all-night romp ahead of getting their required hours of sleep.

The urge to prioritise sex over sleep is strongest in the young, with almost a third of 18-24 year olds (31 per cent) saying yes to nookie, compared to just 11 per cent of those aged 55 plus.

The South West is the randiest region in the country, with Gloucester (30 per cent) and Bristol (23 per cent) scoring the highest for those surveyed who said they’d rather have sex than sleep.

Those two emerged on top, ahead of Wolverhampton (22 per cent), Leeds (22 per cent), Wrexham (21 per cent), Birmingham (21 per cent), Newcastle (21 per cent), Coventry (21 per cent), Brighton (20 per cent) and Cambridge (20 per cent).

However, it seems couples are more likely to be lying back and thinking of England than anywhere else as English people all expressed a higher interest in sex than their neighbours in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Those surveyed in the UK’s devolved nations mostly shunned sex, with just 10 per cent of those in Northern Ireland, 13 per cent of Scots and 14 per cent of Welsh people replying that it was better than sleep.

According to the survey, the cities with the lowest sex drives were Belfast (10 per cent), Edinburgh (12 per cent), Glasgow (12 per cent), Oxford (14 per cent), Norwich (14 per cent),  Leicester (15 per cent) and London (16 per cent).

Paul Coulter of sleepypeople.com, says: “Whether it’s for eight hours of uninterrupted shut eye or something more energetic, the bed should be a haven of comfort and support.

“Harmony in the bedroom is the key to any relationship and that’s why it’s so important to get every detail right in order to make it the perfect place to retire to at the end of the day. After all, without enough sleep, no one will have the energy to pile on the romance.”
