I visited the Matthew Curtis Salon within the Rosewood London, set up by the award-winning celeb stylist himself.

It is quite hidden and you wouldn’t know how to get there without direction. It was also a lot smaller than I had imagined. Nevertheless, the style mimics the art deco/vintage charm of the famous Orient Express, complete with overhead luggage compartments and a vintage leather trunk that converts into a portable styling station, which you can request to your room.

The masculine colours of the blue button back seats and dark wood finish, make it look more like a grooming room, but it is a unisex salon.

My experience…

My stylist Jason started by washing my hair. I explained that my scalp was pretty dry, so he put on a little treatment to help this. The products used were Kérastase.

Jason was gentle when washing my hair making it a relaxing process. Next we moved to blow dry my hair. My hair texture is naturally afro, although I have chemically permed it. The staff here are adept at handling different hair types and this assured me that I was in capable hands.

After a thorough blow dry, my hair was smooth and straight, but because of my hair texture, it would never withstand the weather conditions in this country (ahh London!). So Jason used the straighteners to create soft waves and voilà here is the finished look…
