We’ve become obsessed with maintaining a youthful complexion. Adverts promote promises of ‘magical’ serums and creams that keep your skin looking and feeling flawless and years younger. However, there are things that you can do yourself to keep your skin looking smooth.

Give yourself a facial massage

It may seem silly but giving yourself a facial massage works wonders for your skin. A facial massage stimulates the blood flow in your face as well as lifting your facial muscles – you can do this best when you apply your creams in the evening!

Always, always, ALWAYS use suncream

Applying suncream to your skin (especially your face) protects your skin as well as prevents early signs of ageing from sun damage. SPF protects your skin from UVA and UVB rays and reduces the risk of developing melanoma by around 50%.

Get moving!

Exercise is good for your skin as well as your body! Exercising regularly increases blood circulation, prevents cell death, and reduces AGEs. AGEs (advanced glycation end products) cause oxidative damage to blood vessels and tissues which increases premature ageing.

Hydrate

Staying hydrated is one of the simplest things that you can do to prevent signs of anti-ageing. Not only does it hydrate your skin but it encourages a range of other benefits. Aim for at least 2 litres of water every day to keep your skin and your body hydrated and healthy.

Facial Yoga

Bare with me on this one – but in order for your skin to remain youthful, it contains elasticity. The best way to ensure elasticity is by moving it. If you don’t exercise your facial muscles they can slacken and begin to droop, causing fine lines and wrinkles. The more they move, the more they retain elasticity and suppleness.

Try these little hacks at home, especially during lockdown, and experience the benefits for yourself!
