Your wedding day should be a joyful and romantic celebration. However, between family drama and cancelled vendors, it can turn into a very stressful day. It’s essential to have a plan in place in case things go wrong on your big day. Share this plan with your maid of honour and groom so that everything can be resolved and put back on track for the day. Preparation and backup plans are the key to a smooth wedding day.

Here are a few things you can do to avoid having a crisis on your wedding day.

Have a sewing kit on hand

Wardrobe malfunctions happen, and it’s important to be prepared with an emergency supply kit. If the brides dress rips or the zipper breaks, use a sewing kit to sew her into the dress. You can also sew the groom’s trousers if a seam breaks or a bridesmaid dress. A sewing kit will always come in handy on your wedding day.

Try to invest in high-quality bridal clothing that fits you well and isn’t too small. Squeezing into a wedding dress that is too small is a risky endeavour to embark on. Make sure you have plenty of bridal lingerie options, so you can feel confident out of your dress as well.

Have backup service providers and secondary guests

Guests and service providers may cancel last minute. Guest cancellations can be handled quickly by inviting someone else or leaving the spot empty. Service providers cancelling, on the other hand, can lead to chaos across the wedding party. If your makeup artist or hairstylist cancels, it’s important to stay calm and collected. Talk to your other vendors, who may have connections in the industry, and see if you can call in a favour. Bear in mind that it’s much easier to find one appointment of the bridge than a whole group appointment.

Try to get a contract drawn up with any professional provider to limit the risk of cancellations or no-shows.

Plan for bad weather

Weather is unpredictable, even in the height of summer. If your wedding or reception is outside – make sure you have a backup plan if it rains. You may need to invest in an outdoor gazebo to provide cover or choose an indoor venue. It’s often safer to go for an indoor venue, like a church, with the option for guests to sit outside. Always have an umbrella and keep an eye on the weather leading up to the big day.

Family drama

You need to orchestrate a well-planned out seating plan to keep everyone happy and calm. If certain family members don’t get on, keep them at different sides of the venue. Take your time with the seating plan and make sure it works for both of your families.

Remember to have fun at your wedding and enjoy every part of it!
