Renee Zellweger caused a stir a few months ago when she appeared on “Elle’s women in Hollywood awards” red carpet with a strikingly obvious change in appearance.
Most reactions were negative with heavy insinuations that she’d had surgery. However, the one factor that was taken out of consideration was her age and at 45 like most women, her appearance has evolved.
We have immortalised her character “Bridget Jones” as a forever young vixen forgetting that Jones herself was the poster child for imperfection.
Plus, Renee isn’t a star that frequents the tabloids so we haven’t had a gradual introduction to her changing appearance.
Besides all of that, If she has in fact had surgery, why are we so shocked?
Most actors and entertainers feel the pressure to have surgery in order to propel their careers, as Julia Roberts stated “by Hollywood standards, I guess I’ve already taken a big risk in not having had a facelift” .
We forget that words hurt and no one is immune to the pain.
The rapper’s T.I’s wife became the perfect example of this when she permanently changed her eye colour. For a long time people shot at her self-esteem because they did not deem her worthy of her husband’s love and now that she’s changed her appearance, people still aren’t happy.
When Renee rebuttled the claims of plastic surgery with her witty : “I’m glad that people think I look different! I’m living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I’m happy that perhap’s it shows”, in the midst of it all, that is all that matters.
