A stalwart of East London’s cultural landscape, Rich Mix is an arts venue and cinema that promotes creativity, innovation and development in the arts. This August, the Rich Mix Youth Takeover returns: a whole month of free activities for 16 to 25 year olds. Giving young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to try out new things and develop interests, Rich Mix will be a hive of activity this August!
Taking place from 1st to 22nd August, there is a wide variety of daily events to suit all interests. Featuring interactive workshops and master classes in documentary filmmaking, vlogging, spoken word, dance, fashion and media, Rich Mix wants to encourage young people to take part, create, collaborate and enjoy this exciting opportunity.
Rich Mix Youth Takeover will be launched alongside brand new music events company Concertrate on Friday 1st August, with an electric evening of some of the freshest, most innovative up-and-coming acts. On Sunday 3rd August catch Up to Scratch a one-night only theatre/dance scratch night showcasing the very best emerging talent in London, curated by Rich Mix’s own group of creative Young Ambassadors. Other highlights include a screening of Here and Now, the debut film from writer-director Lisle Turner, followed by a Q+A with the film’s lead actors, and Hackney’s leading under 21s club night Epi-Centre. Some of Rich Mix’s regular acts, including Smile Acoustic and AllSortz, will be bringing one-off special editions of their brilliant shows.
Rich Mix has teamed up with Futureversity to offer a variety of creative workshops, with courses in Manga Drawing, Special Effects Make-Up, Arabic Calligraphy, Street Dance and more. The Takeover will also host workshops and masterclasses with IdeasTap on getting started as a professional artist, and MediaTrust on forging a fledgling writing career and learning to video blog.
