Barcelona is enriched with fresh seafood and vegetable/fruit produce, making this Spanish city a real favourite of mine when it comes to food. Here are my top three places to eat in Barcelona.
1. Ramblero – Sant Josep La Boqueria
Address: Plaça Sant Josep, 16, 08001 Barcelona, Spain Cuisine: Seafood
Price: £
Situated in the Sant Josep La Boqueria public market, this food stall surprisingly has on offer some of the best seafood dishes you will find in the whole of Barcelona. At lunch time, Ramblero is extremely busy, with customers queuing up for a bar stall to indulge in the seafood classics. This is perfect for a quick stop-off, for good Spanish food, whilst exploring the main tourist attraction of Las Ramblas.
We had the seafood platter with lobster as well as fried baby squid. The food was cooked to perfection and prepared in an open kitchen, the staff were polite, friendly and clean. Ramblero seems to have collaborated with a fellow market stall owner, as when I ordered fresh fruit juices, they were passed to me by the neighbouring juice stall.
This place illustrates the true essence of a Spanish market – busy, loud, quick and exciting! Ramblero is a must-visit for anyone travelling to Barcelona.
2. Marea Alta
Address: Av. de les Drassanes, 6, 08001 Barcelona, Spain Cuisine: Seafood, fine dining
Price: ££
For those looking for a quieter intimate experience – Marea Alta is ideal. This fine dining restaurant offers 360 views of the superb Barcelona skyline. Our waitress was extremely knowledgable of the dishes, explaining to us how each one is prepared and cooked. The charcoal monk fish was delightful. I highly recommend coming to the restaurant half an hour before your reservation, to enjoy a few drinks on the outdoor terrace – Marea Baja.
3. Restaurant Salamanca
Address: Calle Almirall Cervera, 34, 08003 Barcelona, Spain Cuisine: Spanish
Price: £
If you want a casual late-night meal serving the best paella – Restaurant Salamanca is the perfect place. With outdoor seating available for over 100 people, this is an ideal spot for food after playing volleyball on the beach or a late night swim, as it is situated a stone’s throw away from the beach front. Having been recommended to us by one of our pedicab riders as being THE BEST spot for paella, Salamanca didn’t disappoint. This restaurant is a favourite with tourists as well as the locals – and is visited for both food and drink – making it extremely popular. Again a must-visit.
