With border restrictions across the world set to lift over the coming months and years, travellers might be sketching out plans for a long, continent-spanning trip (or even just a short one).
Unfortunately, travel tends to be an expensive pastime, and so those of us who haven’t saved up a considerable pile of cash might find ourselves having to get a little creative, and earn a little bit of money along the way.

Why earn money as you travel?
Earning money in this way will offset your travel expenses, allowing you to stay out on the road for longer. You won’t have to save money all year for the sake of a single trip, and, if you do it right, you might even come back from your travels richer than when you left. In fact, you might not even need to return from your travels at all.
So how can you make this happen?
Get a Job Abroad
The most obvious route here is to work while you’re on the move. If you’re intent on working in Ibiza at the height of the tourist season, then getting a job behind a bar might be quite straightforward. In certain places, your ability to speak English might make it very easy to pick up employment in the long-term.
Work Remotely
If your current occupation allows you to work remotely, then you might be able to work for them as you travel. The hours you put in might be inconsistent, and fewer overall, but it’s still worth asking your employer. It might be that they’re prepared to be a little flexible in order to keep you in the long-term. If you’re telecommuting from a foreign country, then a VPN is a must.
Get a Side Hustle
If you can’t do your existing job, or get a new one, then you might look into a side-hustle. There are myriad options, here, but ideally you should look for something that can be done from anywhere with minimal tools. Forex trading allows you to make money from everywhere, as does freelance copywriting and online teaching. Think about your skillset, and what you can do that others can’t!
Social Media Management
If you know your way around a social media profile, then you’ve got a skillset that’s in high demand. Countless companies are looking for people to take care of their activity on social media, and they don’t have a dedicated member of staff that they can spare for the job. That’s where a skilled freelancer comes in – and they needn’t be based in the same country as the business in question.
Become an Influencer
Working as a travel influencer is, in many ways, the dream side-hustle. If you do it right, then you’ll have the resorts and attractions you visit paying you for the exposure, thus funding your lifestyle. Of course, you’ll need to build up your audience over time through regular travel – and this often means having quite a lot of money to begin with. But if you’re able to get the ball rolling, this is the dream way to earn an income on the road.
