The menu is divided into four sections – land, seaside, garden and fire. It isn’t your usual starters, mains, dessert menu, instead it features tapas style dishes, which you are recommended to order 4-5 per person.
We tried dishes from three out of four of the sections on the menu. Starting with a couple dishes from the land and seaside – the steak tartare was the favoured dish of my guest. Mine however, was the crab with apple and lemongrass and the burrata with smoked tomato and dukkha. All these dishes had a lot going in terms of different flavours being mixed together, it was unusual but they worked.
Another dish to try, would be their avocado and crème fraiche topped with caviar. Served in a tartare-esque way with undertones of what we could make out to be apple. It was certainly a unique way of playing up an avocado.
Before we went onto the sweet treats, we had their truffle tagliatelle. The subtle accents of truffle really complimented this dish and it was delicious.
We shared two desserts – Gluttonous doughnuts with a salted caramel filling and a more mild rice pudding with rhubarb and hazelnut crumble. Their doughnuts are clearly their staple dessert and we’re glad we tried them.
OVERALL:
Restaurant Ours is the second venture of acclaimed chef Tom Sellers, whose resume also includes Michelin star, Restaurant Story.
It’s a trendy place and yes it is pricey, but this is to be expected when it’s located right on Brompton Road. A lot of detail has gone into the decor of this place, with a forest-like feel in the midst of a carefully created room. The rounded bar in the middle is chic and reminds us of a fancy gentlemen’s bar.
As we visited on a Wednesday evening, we were treated to live music, that didn’t dull the mood of the 80s soul music that played before.
There are plenty of photo worthy spots in this restaurant, from the mural of flowers to the catwalk of an entrance. The atmosphere, service and decor all made for a great evening.
Ideal for: Date night and photo ops!
