FOOD:

After an extensive makeover, Las Iguanas in Festival Terrace reopened this November with a few new additions to the menu.

We were invited to the relaunch to try out their cocktails and new menu and we certainly left feeling that Latin flavour.

So let’s get to what we ate. My guest and I devoured some chicken wings in honey peri peri and Patagonian-style lamb meatballs with apple, mint, parmesan and a pinch of nutmeg in a rich tomato, mint and mild chilli sauce, served with ciabatta. Both were to die for, but the meatballs won me over with it’s cheesy tomato sauce.

I then tucked into a Peruvian-style slow cooked lamb shank in a golden ale, red wine and amarillo chilli sauce, served with roasted sweet potato mash, crispy chilli and onions. This again was a superb dish, with the lamb falling right off the bone. The sweetness of the mash and the richness of the sauce really brought together wonderful flavours.

My guest had the 10oz sirloin steak with fresh herb chimichurri, Argentine-style roasted sweetcorn purée and a side of sweet potato fries. The sweetcorn purée was a lovely addition to the peppery steak and perfectly roasted fries.

OVERALL:

Las Iguanas Festival Terrace offers a cracking 2-4-1 cocktails from 12-7pm. We tried a couple of their cocktails and I must recommend the Vanilla Mai Tai, this is a lovely twist on the classic mai tai, as the velvety vanilla undertones are gorgeous.

We really enjoyed our evening at Las Iguanas. We received pleasant service, although a bit slow in getting our drinks, I couldn’t complain about the food at all. You can tell a lot of attention had gone into the preparation and we were so high on food afterwards.

The interiors are modern with bright seating and neon signage.

We will most definitely be returning for happy hour or to try more of their tasty menu, because believe me it was a tough choice.

Ideal for: Happy hour
