We are now well into spring – The season for a new stylish wardrobe packed with bright colours, floral dresses and the must have TRENCH coats. But thanks to the sub-zero temperatures, everyone is STILL walking the streets in winter coats, woolly hats, scarves and gloves. (WHY!)
Shopkeepers seem to be struggling to sell their current crop of spring wear. March saw fashion sales drop 3.4% compared with the same month last year! According to accountancy firm BDO’s monthly high street sales tracker.
High fashion retailers have put out their latest trench coats on rails with no one batting an eyelid at them.
However ladies are still rummaging through winter stock to find a long coat but you would be extremely lucky to find one in the sale section and especially in your size!
Fashion stores have now resorted to one-off sales or promotions on their spring collection just to get rid of them and make space for the next batch of clothes. Suppliers say some shops have asked for deliveries of new summer stock to be put on hold while so many spring dresses, skirts and tops remain unsold.
At least the cold weather has helped retailers shift any remaining and unwanted winter stock!
