FOOD:
Located in the Kathu District of Phuket, Thong Dee, is an open plan restaurant serving International and Thai dishes. We travelled to Phuket last month and were fortunate enough to visit them.
Thong Dee’s menu is very varied, with a range of European and Thai dishes that incorporates the owner’s different backgrounds.
For starters, we’d recommend the Carpaccio – Australian beef thinly sliced with truffle oil and parmesan, lemon, black pepper and rucola salad. It is light and the perfect entree to leave you wanting more.
We also had a trio of brie melts, crispy mushrooms and deep fried prawns. I must admit, I’m not a fan of things that are deep fried, but I greatly enjoyed the brie melts out of the three.
If we’re not seeming greedy already, we revelled in the Gambas “Pil Pil” – prawns sautéed in chilli, garlic, olive oil and oregano, topped with parsley. The sauce that the prawns were so delightfully smothered in, gave them an ambrosial flavour, that my guest made very clear was his favourite of the evening.
For the mains, we’d recommend the Pad Kee Mao Spaghetti – stir fried seafood with basil, Thai whiskey and chilli tossed with spaghetti and the Pad Ka Prao Ped – grilled duck breast with chilli, fried in basil and green peppercorn.
Both dishes were very appetising with the right amount of spiciness that didn’t overpower the other flavours. The Pad Kee Mao Spaghetti is the spicier of the two, so if you don’t like spicy food, then this may not be the dish for you – which is a shame, because it was so agreeable.
OVERALL:
Thong Dee is a relaxed environment, where you’ll find many tourists coming to enjoy the carefully thought out dishes. As mentioned above, it is an open plan restaurant, which doesn’t give you a feeling of closeness, but instead it feels airy and lit just enough to make it feel intimate at nighttime.
The food at Thong Dee was very tasty and we would definitely recommend it based on the freshness of food and quality of ingredients.
If you’re heading to Phuket, make sure Thong Dee is on your list.
