Newly opened Jamaican restaurant on Coldharbour Lane, Brixton “Three Little Birds” is the creation of Miss April Jackson, former Miss Jamaica Universe and founder of The Yummy Truth blog. The name “Three Little Birds” was inspired by the 1977 Bob Marley song.

FOOD: The menu is created by April herself and due to the open plan of the restaurant you can even catch her helping out in the kitchen. We tried a few dishes from the menu and were left feeling satisfied. Their staple piece “Stamp and Go” which consisted of salt fish fritters was a delight to the taste buds and a definite recommendation.

For vegetarians, I would also suggest their Mac n Cheese with mushrooms, very tasty with the right amount of cheese and flavour.

DRINKS: Being a Jamaican eaterie you’d expect to find purely rum based cocktails and they have an impressive range of rums to go with their tasty cocktails. We tried “Three Little Birds” which is their signature cocktail, as well as “Miss Lou” which is an apple crumble inspired cocktail decorated with crumble pieces around a martini glass.

ATMOSPHERE: Being a boutique by day and a kitchen by night, there is a section for purchasable goods which all represent Jamaican pride. The décor of the restaurant itself is vibrant with bright yellow cushioned seating and hanging lamps with three little birds in a cage – attention to detail has definitely been applied to this eaterie.

OVERALL: The décor makes for a good date night spot but the food provided is considered to be more of a snack, so I’d recommend it to a small group who want to have some good comfort food with a few rum based cocktails.
