Everyone is trying to do their bit to protect the planet. Whether it’s car shares, reusing plastic bags, or recycling clothes rather than contributing to fast fashion – we’re all trying to make differences in our daily lives to help prevent any further damage to our world. However, we can also make a difference by choosing to purchase eco friendly soaps.

Until recently, I’ve always associated soap bars with my grandma. What was once a household item for years suddenly disappeared and we began replacing the bar with plastic bottled soaps. This has now changed, with big brands such as L’OCCITANE and Body Shop creating more soap bars and reusable packaging.

Here are some reasons why you should make the switch from plastic bottles to sustainable soap bars:

Sustainable and Eco-friendly

The first reason is the most obvious – they’re more friendly to the environment and do not contribute to the damage of the climate. The production of soap bars ensure that less harmful plastics are being consumed in the market and ultimately ending up in landfill or our seas.

They last longer & cost less

Soap bars tend to last 3 to 5 times longer than bottled body wash so is therefore even cost effective to make the switch. They also cost far less money than repurchasing bottled soaps!

More sensitive to the skin

Soap bars are a far cry from the heavily perfumed bars they used to be. They are now designed to be sensitive to the skin with some bars even claiming to be “naked”. The Bonne Mere range with L’OCCITANE have managed to produce incredibly smelling soaps that are enriched with sunflower and coconut oil.

They are palm oil free (palm oil is incredibly bad for the planet. Palm oil production is said to have been responsible for about 8% of the world’s deforestation). This range is also free from any packaging and come in 4 luxurious scents – Lemon & Tangerine, Linden & Sweet Orange, Rosemary & Clary Sage, and Rhubarb & Basil. They also retail for £6 each which is an incredibly good price for this gorgeously scented, eco-friendly, long-lasting soap bar.

They’re travel friendly

Although this point may not be valid for our current lockdown status, it is worth noting that soap bars do not exceed the ml allowance if you only have carry on for your plane journey. All you need to do is wait for them to dry, pop them in your bag are you’re good to go. They will last you for your whole trip and some left over when you return. SO much better than fighting for the last of the body wash on your holiday!

So, if these reasons weren’t enough motivation to get you to switch to the sustainable and eco friendly soap bars then I don’t know what will. Do your bit for the economy and make the switch today!
