It has been officially announced that Nicolas Ghesquière is the new artistic director of Louis Vuitton, taking over the position from Marc Jacobs.

After weeks of rumours, the French luxury brand confirmed that the designer, who left his role as artistic director at Balenciaga last November, would show his first collection next March for Vuitton.

Following his 15-year run at Balenciaga, Ghesquière, 42, said: ‘Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration. I am very honoured and proud to join.

Meanwhile Vuitton believe that Ghesquière, who was named as the head of Balenciaga in 1997 at the tender age of 25, will bring ‘a modern creative vision to the house’s women’s collections, building on the values of refinement, savoir faire and extreme quality.’
